Frederick Hamilton-Temple-Blackwood was born on 21 August 1826, and became the 5th Lord and 1st Marquis of Dufferin and Ava in 1888.
He was the Governor General of Canada, and the Viceroy of India. The print on the right shows him as Governor General in 1873.
He wrote “Letters from High Latitudes” in 1856 about a voyage to Ireland, Jan Mayen and Spitzbergen in the schooner Foam.
He died on 12 February 1902.
