Alarm was built as a Cutter with a 'cod's head' bow in 1830, but was lengthened and converted to Schooner rig after the visit of America in 1851.

The painting opposite shows her as a Cutter winning the Ladies' Challenge Cup at Cowes in 1830.

The print below shows her as a Schooner in 1867.
