The steel screw schooner Aldebaran was built by A. Dubigeon at Chantenay, Nantes, in 1892 but launched under her original name of Hermine. Ordered for Le Comte de Montaigu of Paris, who kept her at Nantes, she was registered at 171 tons gross (37 net) and measured 154½ feet in length with a 20½ foot beam.

Subsequently sold around 1900, she was purchased by Mr. Spencer Chapman of Eccleston Square, London, who renamed her Aldebaran and refitted her to the extent that her tonnage was remeasured at 186 tons gross (94½ net). Although still owned by Chapman in 1914, she does not appear to have been given any wartime role and had disappeared from record by 1920, possibly a casualty of war.
