Musketeer was designed and built by Camper & Nicholson at Northam, Southampton, one of the impressive number of ocean racers launched in 1963 in the face of the strong foreign challenge for the Fastnet and the Admiral's Cup.

She is very unusual for yachts of that time in having a modern version of the old fiddle bow; this gives her a longer base for the fore triangle.

Her owner, Peter Green, Commodore of RORC at the time, wanted a yacht that would never have to reef, and she certainly performed at heer best in heavy weather.
