Gardenia was designed by F C Morgan Giles and built by May, Harden and May in 1914 in pitch pine.

She has a pretty canoe stern and sweet sheer and was originally built as a cutter, though altered to sloop in the 1930s.

At some stage she was renamed Acis II but has reverted to her maiden name and was restored at the Elephant Boatyard in the 1990s.

She is now (2015) kept in the Lower Yealm in South Devon where for the last ten years she has been owned by the ferryman William John Gregor.
