Vonna was a 87 ton (132 ton Thames Measurement) twin screw diesel yacht built in Le Havre in 1916 (rather odd to build a yacht in the middle of a major war, but life may have been different in France).

She was firstly owned by Emile Dubonnet (probably of the drinks family) and then by Jules Briot who had her registered at Ghent.  She first appears in RYS records in 1922 when her new owner, Lord Wavertree, was elected into the Squadron, and he transferred her registration to Portsmouth.  He kept her until 1929 when she was acquired by a gentleman named Zarah K Couyoumdjian.  He wasn't an RYS member.


However, Lord Wavertree replaced her with Vonna II, a 33 foot 9 ton ex-naval pinnace driven by a two cylinder paraffin motor.   He kept her until he died in 1933 when she was acquired by Dr W Lincoln Hurn and moved to Norwich.
