The painting opposite shows Fly as a 16 gun privateer in about 1779
She is shown heading south parallel to the Downs of the east coast of Kent. She is flying a pre-1801 Union Jack from her bowsprit and a red ensign at the stern
She also appears in stern view on the left heading towards an anchored two-decker flying the flag of a Vice Admiral of the Blue at the foremast, a jack and a blue ensign
Another ship under reduced sail is on the far left, with various small craft also in view
The cliffs of South Foreland can be seen under Fly's bowsprit and, to the right, is a Deal lugger and Walmer Castle on the shore.
She was later converted to a yacht with a schooner rig.
