Shamrock had been defeated by Reliance at the 1903 America's Cup. Lipton then went on to build Shamrock IV under the revised America's Cup rules, but he kept Shamrock (which he refused to name as Shamrock III).
In 1919 Shamrock crossed the Atlantic to be the trials boat for Shamrock IV.
After Lipton died, Shamrock was broken up at Southampton in 1933.
During her racing career she sailed 10,000 miles, crossed 304 starting lines and won 127 victories, including the 1908 King's Cup.
