The origins of this Xarifa are unclear but she is believed to have been an ex-slaver brig which was acquired by Robert Greville after her capture by HMS Pelorus in 1832.

A note on the back of a lithograph (on the right here) in the National Maritime Museum Greenwich states:

'She was originally the Philadelphia-built slaver "Teresa Sequunda" & after her capture & prize court proceedings she was sold out by the Royal Navy to be refitted as a private yacht.'

Other yachts shown in the lithograph are Camilla (147 ton schooner, owned by Thomas Hallifax), Kestrel (Lord Yarborough's brigantine) and Pearl (Lord Uxbridge's cutter).  The print also shows the former RYS clubhouse, subsequently the Gloster Hotel.

She was converted to a schooner when Lord Wilton acquired her and her tonnage gradually increased over the years he owned her: 175 in 1835; 185 in 1843; 200 in 1848 and finally 204 in 1852.
