Nick Nottingham graduated from Durham University in 1989 with a degree in French.  He then joined the Army, serving as an infantry officer for 30 years before retiring in 2019, having been the Deputy Commanding General of a French Army Division.

A lifelong cruising sailor, he and his wife Sue owned Kianga, a Moody 33 Mk II from 2007-2017, while thy brought up their two boys. They have since owned Spellbinder, a 2006 Hallberg Rassy 40. Nick undertook an Atlantic circuit in her in 2018/19, cruised the four nations up to Orkney in 2021, followed the continental coast from IJmuiden to Porto in 2022 (winning the Camrose Trophy) and cruised the Baltic in 2023.

He joined the Cruising Committee in 2020 and becomes its chair in 2024.
