Captain William Balfour Forbes was born on 10 December 1845 and died on 9 May 1928 at the age of 82.

The son of Arthur Forbes-Gordon of Rayne and Charlotte Balfour, he was given the name of William Balfour Forbes-Gordon at birth.

He married Helen Arabella Persse, daughter of Walter Blakeney Persse and Anne Jane Whiteman, on 25 November 1889.

He fought in the Straits of Malacca in 1874.  He gained the rank of Captain in the service of the Royal Navy.  He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches. He was decorated with the award of the Albert Medal (2nd Class).
