Francis Granville Godolphin Osborne died in 1924.
An extract from The Mercury (a Tasmanian newspaper) dated 21 April 1881 indicates that he served in Bacchante as a part of the detached squadron that had been sent to Australia:
"The Bacchante is well known as having on board as midshipmen H.R.H. Prince Albert Victor of Wales and H.R.H. Prince George of Wales. This man-o'-war carries 16 guns. She is an iron corvette cased with wood, and has a tonnage of 4,130 (2,679) tons, and is of 5,420 h.p. The Right Hon. Lord Charles T. M. D. Scott, son of the Duke of Buccleuch, is captain of her, with George W. Hill as commander. She has 42 officers, including Lieut. the Hon. Assheton Curzon Howe, son of Earl Howe, and midshipmen, the Hon. John C. M. D. Scott, son of the captain, Hon. Geo. A. Hardinge, and the Right Hon. Lord Francis G. G. Osborne, besides the two Princes".
He served in HM Yacht Osborne as a Lieutenant in 1896.
He was the brother of George Godolphin Osborne, 10th Duke of Leeds (RYS 1893-1927; Vice Commodore 1901-1919; Commodore 1920-1926).
