Admiral Norman Craig Palmer, CVO (20 August, 1866 – 12 January, 1926.
Life and Career
For "special service in effecting the capture of a Slave Dhow on the East Coast of Africa", Palmer was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 1 June 1888.
He was promoted to Commander on 31 December 1899, and then to Captain on 1 January 1904.
In May 1905, he assumed command of the second class protected cruiser Highflyer.
Directly thereafter, he assumed command of the first class protected cruiser Royal Arthur in July 1906, remaining with her about a year.
He was the captain of Aboukir on 9 March 1909.
On the occasion of the visit of the King to Malta Palmer was appointed a Member of the Fourth Class of the Royal Victorian Order (M.V.O.) on 24 April 1909.
Palmer was appointed a Naval ADC to King George V on 4 June 1913, and a Commander of the Royal Victorian Order (C.V.O.) on 13 October.
He was appointed in command of Conqueror on 16 December.
The Great War
Palmer was promoted to Rear Admiral on 18 December 1914.
Post-War
He became a Vice Admiral on 1 August 1919, and was placed on the Retired List the next day.
He was advanced to Admiral on the Retired List on 31 July 1924.
