Admiral Colville (1861-1939) was the second son of Charles John Colville (RYS 1854-1903), the 1st Viscount Colville.
He was born in Eaton Place and educated at Marlborough College. At the age of 13 he joined the Navy on the training ship Britannia and, by 1911 he was a Vice Admiral.
On the way up he was the First Lieutenant of HM Yacht Victoria and Albert. In 1916 he became C-in-C Portsmouth.
