Vice-Admiral Humphrey Hugh Smith, D.S.O. (17 November 1875 – 27 September 1940)
Early Life and Career
On 15 October 1896, he was confirmed in the rank of Sub-Lieutenant, dated 14 June 1895.
He was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant dated 31 December 1897.
Smith was promoted to the rank of Commander dated 31 December 1909.
For his service under Tupper, Smith was appointed a Companion of the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) on 21 April 1917.
On 14 September 1918, he was appointed in command of the new aircraft carrier Argus.
He was appointed a Naval Aide-de-Camp to the King on 1 March 1926. He was promoted to the rank of Rear-Admiral on 9 July, and placed on the Retired List on 10 July. He was advanced to the rank of Vice-Admiral on the Retired List on 1 April 1931.
