Lieutenant-Colonel John Cecil Gerard Leigh (21 December 1889 – 27 December 1965), was an army officer and politician active in North East London.
Following education at Eton and the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst, he was commissioned as a second lieutenant in the 1st Life Guards in 1909. By the end of the First World War he had reached the rank of captain.
He retired from the army and entered politics in 1922 when he was elected to the London County Council as a Municipal Reform Party councillor representing Stepney, Mile End. At the 1923 general election he stood unsuccessfully for the Conservative Party for the constituency of Bethnal Green South West. He stood down from the London County Council after serving a single three-year term.
He moved to Leicestershire where he was active in the Home Guard during the Second World War, and was a county welfare officer for Leicestershire and Rutland. He was promoted to the honorary rank of lieutenant-colonel in 1946. He was also a justice of the peace and high sheriff for the county of Leicestershire in 1948.
He maintained a home in London where he died, aged 76. His funeral was conducted at the Grosvenor Chapel , South Audley Street.
