Captain Russell Grenfell, R.N., Retired (10 April, 1892 – 4 July, 1954) served in the Royal Navy.

Born the son of Captain H. H. Grenfell, R.N., Russell Grenfell gained two months' time on passing out of the Training Establishment.

Grenfell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant on 15 June, 1914.

Grenfell was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant-Commander on 15 June, 1922.

Grenfell was promoted to the rank of Commander on 31 December, 1927.

His last post before his retirement from the Royal Navy in 1937 was as senior commander on the staff of the Royal Naval College, Greenwich. The text of a lecture Grenfell delivered at the Royal Naval College, Greenwich entitled, "The Growth of pre-Jutland Tactics" is found in Dewar Papers DEW/4 at the National Maritime Museum.

He published 'The Art of the Admiral' (1937) and 'Sea Power in the next War' (1938) and he is also believed to be the author 'T124' who wrote 'Sea Power', published in September 1940.

Grenfell was placed on the Retired List at his own request with the rank of Captain on 10 April, 1937.
