Note that this is not the better known Vice Admiral Arthur Hildebrand Alington (1839-1925), but is (possibly his son?) Vice Admiral Argentine Hugh Alington (10 July 1876 - 25 March 1945).
Life and Career
Alington was born in Aberdeen on 10 July 1876, the son of a Captain in the Royal Navy.
He was promoted to Lieutenant on 30 June 1899, and to Commander 30 June 1910.
The Great War
Alington was promoted to Captain on 30 June 1916.
On 6 August 1918, he was appointed in command of the light cruiser Dragon.
Post War
On 10 August 1920, Alington was made captain of Glorious while she was serving as a turret drill ship in Devonport.
In September 1922, he assumed command of the cruiser Hawkins.
He was mentioned in Foreign office reports on 28 January 1924 for his services in the aftermath of the Japanese earthquake.
Alington was promoted to Rear Admiral on 1 August 1927 and was placed on the Retired List the next day.
He was promoted to Vice Admiral on the Retired List on 15 February 1932.
Alington died of myocarditis on 25 March 1945.
