He was made CMG in January 1919 as the Captain of the 4th Destroyer Flotilla and HMS Apollo. The citation read:
The services of this flotilla have been invaluable. At no time has there been reserve of strength to carry out their duties, and at times it has only been possible to meet the demands by placing an excessive strain on the personnel and material of the Destroyers. It is due entirely to Captain Wood's judicious handling, perfect organisation and great care, that the health of the crews has been maintained, and the defects, repairs and boiler cleanings have not fallen in arrears. The system of training has been conducted on sound and practical lines, and the discipline of the flotilla has been excellent.
