Alastair St Clair Leveson-Gower was born at Lilleshall on 24 January 1890, and died in Johannesburg on 28 April 1921.

He was the son of Cromartie Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 4th Duke of Sutherland and Millicent Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, The Duchess of Sutherland.

He married Elizabeth Hélène Gardner Demarest and their daughter was Elizabeth Millicent Suherland, suo jure Countess of Sutherland.

He was the brother of Victoria Elizabeth Leveson-Gower; George Sutherland-Leveson-Gower, 5th Duke of Sutherland and Rosemary Millicent Ward
