Charles Alexander Yorke, 8th Earl of Hardwicke was born on 11 November 1869.

He was the son of John Manners Yorke, the 7th Earl, and Edith Mary Oswald.

He married, firstly, Ellen Russell, daughter of James Russell, on 27 April 1911.  They were divorced in 1927.

He married, secondly, Mary Radley Twist, daughter of Edward Robert Twist, on 20 August 1930.

He died on 1 February 1936 at age 66, without male issue.  There was, though, a daughter, Lady Elizabeth Mary Yorke (1912-1985).

He succeeded to the titles of 8th Baron Hardwicke of Hardwicke, Co Gloucester [GB 1733], 8th Earl of Hardwicke [GB 1754] and 8th Viscount Royston, Co Cambridge [GB 1754] on 13 March 1909.

He fought in the First World War, and became a Lieutenant in the Royal Naval Volunteer Reserve.
