Besides building and owning fine yachts, Sir Edward was a very talented man, writing much for papers and periodicals and author of an excellent chapter on yachting in the Badminton Library.
He built a fine 297 ton schooner called Shamrock which was bought in 1894 by the Earl of Lonsdale in order to secure the latter's election to the Squadron.
There is a Memorial Tablet to him on the North Wall of Holy Trinity Church.
